Is there a way to make my own water bottle for hamsters?
Can I just use a water bottle and poke a hole in the cap?

Why make one ya can buy them for around £2 in pet stores, they dont require much water to drink anyways, i think hampsters only take a few mils of water if that each day.
so not worth buying one, could cost you more to make one that to buy one.

MrSteve; a water bottle won't cost anything if I have one already.
I went and found an actually bottle for hamsters.

using a dish would get knocked over and make all the bedding all wet, i spose you could use a normal drinking bottle, one from shops when ya finished using it, but then you need to figure somethink out about the flow of the water in the nossle.??

Dishes are bad because if the hamster did fall in, it could get sick. It would be ok I think. You should probably make sure it's not like a gatorade bottle or something because the cap is so big. Make sure it's a little hole in the cap, make sure it's fit securely on the cage, and the water comes out easy but not leaking. Also make sure you see the hamster drinking from it within the first day or so.

Not necessarily, if you make a small enough hole it won't leak too much.

I think it might be possible to make a decent waterbottle along the style of water bottles designed for birds where the water falls into a reservoir and self refills as they drink the water in reservoir.
I think if it was small enough so they cant climb in and fixed so no spillage then it would work ok. |

Yeah, you could try poking a hole in the cap and then adding a small marble inside the bottle to keep the water from leaking out while the hammy is not drinking, I think it would work just like a real one, if it works let me know
